Family Advocacy

Family support and advocacy is at the heart of Families Forward Resource Center’s mission –as are our family advocates on staff. FFRC provides family support programs to families following principals specified by Family Support America and the Family Resource Center Association (FRCA), such as the value of working with families through relationships based on equality and respect.

FAMILY VISITATION and COUNSELING

A Supervised Visitation Advocate will provide hands-on direct assistance and parent education to families and children who are referred for Supervised Visitation services. This may include scheduling, transportation, face-to-face supervision, fully supervised visits at established visitation sites, and parent training and education before and after visits. Families and children to be served will be involved with local county departments of Human Services/Social Services and services may be provided in conjunction with a home-based family preservation program utilizing a strengths-based solution-focused model. The Supervised Visitation Advocate will be responsible for completing family intakes for initial assessment of needs and for completing on-going Record of Contact (ROC) notes that are submitted to the county.

UTILITY ASSISTANCE REFERRALS

In the event of unforeseen circumstances, i.e. job loss, medical challenges, etc., it is sometimes necessary to receive support to maintain utilities in your home. Although Families Forward Resource Center is unable to provide direct utility bill assistance, we are able to help assess your situation and individual needs and tap into the resources available from the city, county, state, and other non-governmental organizations that may be able to help. We will do our best to help you navigate the available options and facilitate receiving the assistance that you need.

When a family calls, Families Forward Resource Center advocates tap into a network of community resources to find the assistance it needs. Some of the support provided to families includes referrals to community resources, assistance with family visitation, crisis counseling, emergency utility assistance, and enrollment in public benefits.  FFRC provides family support services to an estimated 2,000 families.
